I am currently a part time Japanese Language teacher at an alternative school while pursuing PhD in mechanical engineering at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. Besides helping to supervise the undergraduate students, I am also a teacher's assistant for the Thermodynamics Laboratory. At the school, I teach Japanese to students aged 10-18 years old.

Experience
-My very first experience tutoring was when I was in form 5 where I was appointed to tutor a classmate who had trouble with English Language.  The student got an A in SPM.  
-I have 5 years experience in teaching Bahasa Malaysia and English in high schools and a language academy in Japan (part time). 
-I have experience in tutoring (one-to-one) students age 7-18 years old since 2017 at a local NGO. The subjects I tutored are mainly mathematics, science, and sometimes additional mathematics and physics.

Teaching method
Generally, for younger students, I often use learning by playing method, whereas for the older students I often use more exercises. However, each student has different level of understanding and pace. Therefore, I use different techniques on different students. For example, I may use technique that require physical movements to a 13 year old student, and maybe just written exercise for another 13 year old student. This has been helpful, especially for slow learners, where a form 3 student who was clueless about form 1 mathematics at the beginning finally able to understand it after a some sessions.

I believe that learning should be fun and students should be allowed to make mistakes in order for them to learn.  I may be just tutoring subjects, but I also strongly encourage students to be brave and confident to share their answers and reasons. I do have fun working with children, but I am firm when teaching.
